University Union Building, University of North Texas, Denton, Texas

Profile: UNT has a reputation of incorporating student input into campus improvement decisions; the University Union renovation project is no exception. Last expanded in 1976 to serve a student population of 17,000 students, the building was in great need of infrastructure improvements. The newly renovated (2015) Union building is sustainable and efficient, designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification. The bright new student hub provides expanded space for campus organization offices and meeting rooms, a new auditorium, the University Bookstore and other retail vendors. UNT Dining Services operates a quick-service fresh market and a vegan café, as well as a retail food court. Common and public areas include a Rooftop Garden, Meditation Room and Dance Room.
