Profile: The Complex is two buildings
connected by a central atrium. "The Gates Complex will enable the
department to take on a great many initiatives in research and teaching
that were previously impossible for lack of coherent space," says Bruce Porter, Computer Science Department Chair. To encourage the sharing of ideas and bringing like-minded faculty and
students together, the building has an array of teaching
spaces, including a 200-seat lecture hall, seven classrooms, 10 seminar
rooms, several electronic seminar rooms and instructional labs, more
than 24 discussion rooms, and eight conference rooms. The complex is
being designed to attain a LEED Silver certification.
Services: DataCom Design Group
provided the design for information technology, audiovisual, acoustics,
CATV, and security to support extensive research and instructional
space.
