South Early College High School, Houston ISD, Houston, Texas

Profile: HISD has five "early college" schools, which blend high school and college curricula to give students the opportunity to earn up to 60 credits while they finish high school. Typically located on a college or university campus, many ECHS focus on STEM and vocational training while they provide a lead-in to the higher education environment. South Early is a two-story structure scheduled for completion in 2016, to serve about 400 students from the flexible technology learning hub on the Houston Community College South Campus. It features active learning classrooms and labs for tech programs including robotics and software engineering. Each lab has three adaptable learning centers with operable walls to create different spaces.
